What, no barrel roll?
by Thing One
Editor’s Note: Just because we haven’t been posting lately doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy: so far this month Thing One has attended an NYLT staff training campout at Camp Parsons, the Aurora District Camporee at Camp Pigott, the National Jamboree shakedown campout (also at Camp Pigott), and the Chief Seattle Council Eagle Scout recognition banquet. At the banquet, he entered a drawing to win a seat on a Boeing 737 delivery flight to Alaska Airlines … and won!
Fifty Eagle Scouts enjoyed an approximately one hour flight as their Eagle Scout pilot flew the scenic route from Boeing Field to the Alaska Airlines hangar at SeaTac Airport. Even without a barrel roll, it was a very cool adventure. Many thanks to Boeing and Alaska Airlines for giving the council’s newest Eagle Scouts the opportunity to fly!
Thing One’s entire collection of photos can be viewed in the Gimlet Gallery.

The Eagle Scouts, Aviation Corps Explorer Cadets, and other people chosen for the delivery flight all met in the parking lot of the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field. Then we went to the Boeing factory and took pictures of the new Boeing 737, inside and out.

Fourteen scouts were chosen to ride in first class and one was chosen to cut the ribbon for the plane.
We boarded the plane and flew to SeaTac Airport by a scenic route. First we passed over Mason Lake, then Camp Parsons, then Camps Pigott and Brinkley, then Steven’s Pass, Snoqualmie Pass, Mount Rainier and finally Olympia.

Everything except part of Camp Parsons, Puget Sound and part of Olympia were clouded over, but we still had fun because the flight attendants asked the group trivia questions about Alaska Airlines.

At 6:00 we landed at SeaTac Airport, watched the plane as it was parked in the Alaska Airlines hangar, and buses took us back to the Museum of Flight.
I particularly liked meeting people before and during the flight. The pilot was an Eagle Scout himself. Because of the special nature of the passengers, we got to visit the cockpit during the flight and meet the pilot. The President of Alaska Airlines, Brad Tilden, another Eagle Scout, greeted us and flew with us on the trip.

I really enjoyed the afternoon.
